About

The Strathalbyn Stationmaster's Art Gallery is a heritage‑listed cultural venue located within the former Stationmaster's residence at the historic Strathalbyn Railway Station. The building has been carefully restored, retaining its nineteenth‑century architectural character while providing an inviting and accessible space for visitors to experience local and regional art.

The gallery presents a changing program of exhibitions featuring South Australian artists working across a wide range of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles and mixed media. Each exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to engage with contemporary creative practice while also appreciating the building's historic setting. The gallery's curatorial approach highlights diversity, regional talent and community participation, ensuring that returning visitors encounter new works throughout the year.

A key annual feature is the gallery's role as the coconvenor for Plein Air Strathalbyn, an outdoor painting event that attracts artists from across the region. Works created throughout the township showcase Strathalbyn's landscapes, heritage streetscapes and artistic community.

The gallery volunteers maintain a welcoming environment providing insights into both the artworks and the building's history. Its location is within walking distance of Strathalbyn's shops, cafes and gardens making it a convenient inclusion in a heritage, arts or cultural itinerary.

The Strathalbyn Stationmaster's Art Gallery offers visitors an authentic regional arts experience within a significant heritage building, contributing to Strathalbyn's reputation as a destination for culture, history and creative exploration.
