Bathurst Flagstaff

The Bathurst Flagstaff commemorates the proclamation of Bathurst as a settlement by Governor Macquarie on 7 May 1815. Reinstalled on 7 May 2015 as part of Bathurst's Bicentennial Celebrations, the Flagstaff stands as a significant reminder of the city's colonial history.

The flagstaff features the original plaque that was a part of the original flagstaff at the Proclamation Cairn, beneath the flag in the glass pyramid. Around the viewing platform are etched glass panels featuring handprints of local Aboriginal children, Elders and Wiradjuri designs of Girawu (the Tree Goanna) and Biladurang (Platypus) dreaming. At night, the Flagstaff Pyramid is illuminated.
