Set in the middle of Yass township, the Yass Railway Museum is a little bit of a hidden gem. Take a walk through the yard and view the main station building, the station master's residence, an original loading bank, a goods shed, the mighty black 1307 Steam locomotive and everyone's favourite model railway. Of course, you can also come and view the powerful black 1307 Steam locomotive that was the mainstay of the state railway system and in service for nearly 95 years.
The Railway yard is also perfect for a picnic, and visitors are encouraged to bring their lunch with them and spend a few hours enjoying the grounds. For more information or to contact them, please visit the website.
I am a bit of a train nut so I loved it here. Small museum but it’s perfect if you want to cover all the basics. There is also 2 Melbourne trams on display! 1307 steam loco is one of the oldest and longest working locos in Australia. Volunteers are a wealth of information. A must do when in Yass
A small but wonderful museum run by a wonderful devoted family! The passion and history behind each item is worth the trip. Thank you Sam and Tank for your wonderful hospitality. Happy Birthday Liam, and what great host you were to my son, Ty. Hope to see you in 2026!
Historic trams and trains on display. Small car park adjacent to site.
Delightful and charming railway museum. Whether young or old, it’s a great museum to stretch the legs for half an hour or more to explore Yass’ history and trains. The volunteers are wonderful and if you have small children who like trains, they will love exploring and getting up and close to the trains.
Went there as a visitor while the rental Tesla was charging. Was closed but owners were kind enough for me to enter and wander through the museum. Absolutely gorgeous, got so many pictures of the trams. Will visit again (if i get an EV that is). As a bonus didn't have to buy tickets.
