About

Lawson is a quaint village in the Blue Mountains, approximately 70 kilometres west of Sydney. Situated in the mid mountains, it has recently undergone an exciting revitalisation with boutique cafes, shops and restaurants. The South Lawson Waterfall Circuit is a delightful two-hour circuit with four small waterfalls along the way, making it popular with families.

Lawson Leisure Centre is a great place to swim and cool off and have a picnic in the summer months.

When I think of the Australian equivalent of an English village train station, this one always comes to mind. It’s a quiet, charming old station with beautiful brickwork—a feature I’m particularly fond of. Waiting here, I half expect to be picked up by a steam train or a red rattler or something else of that ilk, though I’m consistently proven wrong. Still, one can always hope. As someone who tends to arrive for the train far earlier than most would consider necessary, I often find myself waiting here for 15-20 minutes. At most stations, this would be insufferable, but here, it’s rather pleasant, especially when facing away from the main road. This station is one of the more aesthetically pleasing stops along the Blue Mountains line. If it weren’t for the hour-long wait between trains, I’d recommend getting off just to take in the atmosphere, particularly if you’re a fan of older stations.
