The Campbell Rhododendron Gardens in Blackheath are an approximate two-hour drive, 120 kilometres west of Sydney.
You'll find a unique display of exotic rhododendrons, azaleas, maples and deciduous trees, planted amongst Australian native eucalypts and bushland, covering 18.3 hectares (45 acres).
Open all year round, the Gardens are especially spectacular from late September to mid-November when the magnificent blossoms range from pinks to yellows to purples. Through April, the autumn colours are glorious, and later, the bare branches create sculptural patterns against the native shrubs.
The Lodge Rhodo Tea Room is open for six weeks during the peak season (October /November), serving the best 'Aussie Cream Teas' in the Blue Mountains and selling unique Rhodo souvenirs. Our other major event is the Gnome Convention, held every year on Easter Saturday and Sunday, which showcases around 2,500 gnomes as well as family activities.
Allow an hour to stroll the easy walking tracks, or take your picnic basket and rug down to the valley and enjoy this gem of the Blue Mountains. Dogs are allowed on leads. And if walking is a problem, there is an accessible lookout near the Lodge.
The Gardens are off the Great Western Highway and within walking distance from the railway station. The Gardens are managed entirely by Volunteers who depend on your generosity to maintain these Gardens.

Love this garden! Came here around Easter, and had a pleasant walk throughout the bushes, paths, bridges and our son said hello to every gnome he met. It was quite a lovely morning of just wondering around in nature and enjoying all the beautiful flowers. Nice and flat and easy to navigate. Would recommend for families or dates with a loved one.

When I visited in the last week of October, there weren’t many flowers in bloom — it seemed like the second week would’ve been the perfect time to see them in full bloom. However, it was still wonderful to take a walk while listening to the birds singing, just like in a fairy tale. The $5 donation was very reasonable, and the café was lovely — the scones were great, and it was the perfect place to enjoy a nice tea time.

We visited the garden today with a big family and had a great experience. The entry fee was $5 per person, and kids entered for free. It was definitely worth visiting—whether you live around Katoomba or are stopping by after exploring the Blue Mountains. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon, but the atmosphere was lovely. The flowers were in full bloom, and the vibrant colours of the rhododendrons were simply amazing to see. The small lake and plenty of seating areas were a nice bonus, making it a relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit. The only downside was that the bins in the toilets were full, the floor was quite wet, and there was a strong odour in the men’s toilet—perhaps because it was close to closing time. Still, that’s something that could easily be improved.

An interesting and unique garden with exotics planted amongst the existing native eucalyptus trees and shrubs over 18 hectares. It is on uneven terraced terrain with ponds, lake, garden bridges, and lots of rhododendron, azaleas and others. Plenty of walking tracks with native birds and small animals. Facilities include toilets, picnic benches and shelters, parking. While free to enter, donations are invited for maintenance which is done by a local society. Very popular especially in spring when there are plenty of blooms. Lots of tourists and locals in spring. Fair bit of walking on uneven terrain around under shade mainly. You can spend several hours here depending on your interests. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Beautiful place. Lots to see. Parking is easy during off peak times. There's a great cafe with lovely menu on offer.

Beautiful gardens especially in spring. The array of flowers and plants are amazing. It’s such a relaxing and peaceful place. Definitely worth the trip. The only disappointment was the lake, it didn’t look very clean. I will definitely go back sometime.
