The Tablelands Taster is a full day of private birding on the Atherton Tablelands, one of the richest birding areas in Australia. The day begins with hotel pickup in Cairns before dawn, climbing into the highlands as the forest wakes.
The route responds to conditions on the day. Crater lakes, rainforest edges, wetlands and open farmland each hold different birds, and the guides read the morning and go where the activity is. Highland specialties share the day with honeyeaters, parrots, waterbirds and raptors.
Guests travel in a small private group with a lead guide who has spent more than twenty years in these forests. A sit-down lunch at a Tablelands cafe breaks the day. Swarovski optics are supplied. The pace is unhurried, shaped by the birds rather than a timetable.
