An awe-inspiring name for an awe-inspiring park – get ready to discover giant shifting dunes, oceanic volcanic columns, a historic shipwreck, freshwater lakes and more. D'Entrecasteaux National Park is an important wildlife sanctuary of wild, unspoilt beauty, blessed with white beaches, rugged coastal cliffs and towering karri forests. The park is named after the French admiral Bruni D'Entrecasteaux, who sailed by on a scientific expedition in 1792. It may seem like ancient history, but fossils in the area show the Noongar people lived here more than 6,000 years ago! D'Entrecasteaux National Park is a narrow strip of land stretching 130km along the coast between Augusta and Walpole. Here, you will find hexagonal volcanic rock, tall forests, freshwater lakes and colossal dunes – the most extensive inland dune system in the southern hemisphere. This contrasting landscape will have you reaching for your camera or phone to snap an Instagram-worthy photo! The long white beaches are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, diving and fishing. Walks along the coast offer stunning ocean views. You can even see migrating Southern Right Whales along the coast from September to November, and New Zealand Fur Seals have been spotted at Black Point. You'll love it here.
