6 Hour Scenic Flight
Excellent views of outback South Australia beginning with a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and Brachina Gorge. Pass over Parachilna, the Leigh Creek open-cut coal fields, the township of Marree, Muloorina Station and the awe-inspiring Lake Eyre. After marvelling at the wonders of Lake Eyre, land at the remote town of William Creek for lunch (population 10 at last count). Return via the beautiful Painted Hills, the Breakaway Country, the Andamooka opal fields and Lake Torrens. Operates: Daily
1 Hour Scenic Flight
For the most extensive insight of the Flinders Ranges region, the 1 hour scenic flight will take you beyond Wilpena Pound over the Western Plains, Parachilna Township, Parachilna Gorge, Blinman Township and Copper Mine, the Bunkers Range and Skytrek 4WD track. This is a unique opportunity to truly see the varying colours and textures of this ancient and beautiful landscape.
20 Minute Scenic Flight
The 20 minute scenic flight provides a fantastic view of our surrounds where you will see Wilpena Pound from the air with the resort nestled in among the River Red Gums just near the Pound Gap. You will also see the Elder Range, Edeowie Gorge, Lake Torrens, the Heysen Range and St. Mary Peak.
Yura Udnyu - Our Culture, Your Culture Walk (2hr)
For a fascinating Aboriginal and European cultural experience, join an experienced Yura guide for an entertaining and informative stroll to the Old Wilpena Station, one of South Australia's oldest and best preserved pastoral settlements. "Yura" is the name for Adnyamathanha people and "Udnyu" means white, so this tour includes the intertwining histories of both cultures. Along the way, guests learn about the diversity of the land, native animals, native bush-tucker which changes with the season, and Yura culture and history.
30 Minute Scenic Flight
This flight takes you slightly further and completes a circuit of Wilpena Pound where your pilot will point out the Elder Range, Edeowie Gorge, Heysen Range, Lake Torrens, Bunyeroo Gorge, Brachina Gorge, St Mary Peak and the Pound Gap. You will clearly see how the Flinders Ranges appear to be a backbone on the landscape. An extraordinary sight and great for photographers. Photographers: early morning presents the best light for photographing Wilpena Pound.
Sunset Spectacular
Tour is approximately two hours and includes beverages and canapés. Observe the changing colours as the sun sets over Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges. Marvel at this vast ancient landscape from a spectacular local lookout point as your Aboriginal guide tells traditional stories of the formation of the Flinders Ranges and the two serpents that formed Ikara (Wilpena Pound). Don’t forget your camera!
4WD Tour - Time Travel and Gorgeous Gorges
Australia has the world's oldest visible geology on Earth and much of this can be found in the Flinders Ranges. The gorges around Discovery Resorts - Wilpena Pound provide an ancient and fascinating history of the Flinders Ranges, and are visible in the fossil layers and referred to as the 'Corridor Through Time'. On this tour, you will also learn about Adnyamathanha Dreaming, which is still very strong in traditional Yarta (land). Explore more than 100 million years of this history as well as marveling at the rugged beauty of Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges. Search for Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies and enjoy sweeping views of Bunyeroo Valley and the eastern wall of Wilpena Pound. Visitors will learn about the rugged mountains including the moss rocks with their contrasting colours and the ever-changing flora of the area, especially after the rain.
