About

Experience 170 years of Burton family heritage and our colonial past when you visit "Settler's Rest" for the Historic Farm Tour.

Geoff Burton is the Great Great Grandson of James Burton (1793) who was transported to Sydney Cove in 1816 as a Convict. in 1828 he and his wife Elizabeth were offered a Free Settler's Land Grant at O'Connell Plains. Their eldest son James Burton (1819) purchased the property "Settler's Rest" in 1856 and he and his wife Mary reared ten children here.

The Convict's great-great-grandson, Geoff Burton, will give you a guided tour of the "Settler's Rest" slab hut, Burton family home and an impressive display of artifacts and historic farm machinery. See what is ready to pick from the vegetable garden or sit quietly for a moment in the memorial garden. After your tour, enjoy morning tea on the verandah.
