Aussie Bird Tours caters to birders of every level. They are experts in small, private and customised birding tours. Specialising in local Sydney bird tours and NSW, ensuring you find the best locations and birds. All tours are listed on the website.

Half, full-day and multi-day birding tours are on offer, located on Sydney's northern beaches. Designed for all types of birdwatchers: beginners, listers, photographers and twitchers. Hosted and guided by Mike Barrow, a passionate and professional birder.

Half-day morning tours cover a variety of habitats: coastal lagoon, rock shelf platform, swamp mahogany wetland, sub-tropical rainforest and classic Aussie bush. Guests can expect to see from 40- 60 different bird species. Binoculars, bird books and expert advice are all provided.

Tours run all year round. Private tours on request. Full-day tours to Newcastle, Royal National Park and many more. Overnight tours to Capertee Valley.

Beach to Bush Half Day Tour

Four hours of discovering birds at Dee Why Lagoon, Long Reef and Warriewood Wetlands. Bring a sense of adventure as you listen and look for the various bird species inhabiting the local lagoon. Keep your eyes open for predatory birds such as the osprey and brown goshawk. Fairywrens, wattlebirds, honeyeaters, egrets, cormorants and a variety of duck species all live in and around the lagoon. You'll take a short drive to Warriewood Wetlands to look for the abundant honeyeater species and small bush birds in a classic Aussie bush habitat. Expect to see at least 40 different species of birds. Tour runs from 7 am-11 am.

Bush to Wetland Half Day Tour

Four hours of discovering birds at Chiltern Trail and Warriewood Wetlands. Chiltern Trail to look for the abundant honeyeater species and small bush birds in a classic Aussie bush habitat. A short drive to Warriewood Wetlands. Bring a sense of adventure as you listen and look for the various bird species inhabiting the local wetlands. Keep your eyes open for predatory birds such as the brown goshawk, fairywrens, wattlebirds, honeyeaters, spoonbill, cormorants, and a variety of duck species all live in and around the wetlands. Expect to see at least 40 different species of birds. Tour runs from 7 am-11 am.

In February, my husband and I did our second adventure with Mike Barrow - a full day private Western Sydney guided tour (booked on his day off to accommodate our schedules) Although the weather didn’t fully cooperate, we had a great day identifying FOUR rarities for this region, a Hooded Robin, posing graciously for photographs, two different views of Freckled Ducks ( totaling four ) one Spotted Harrier and two Shelducks. Not being an Aussie, I was so excited to view / learn about so many new birds . My e bird life list count increased 😊 Scheyville National Park was a hidden gem, giving views of Crimson and Eastern Rosella, our target bird , the black Capped Robin, a handsome white necked heron, and so many other birds. The grey kangaroo watched us curiously . Cautiously driving to our next destination , Bushells Lagoon , Mike would safely pull to the roadside to ensure I could get photos of my requested species which included pink eared duck, teals, pacific black duck, Maned duck. We also spent time at Pitt Town Lagoon where the chestnut breasted Munia was my favorite. At Richland lowlands we were treated with good views of the Brown Quail, Double Barred Finch, Nankeen Kestrel, Whistling and Black Shouldered Kites. We drove through the grasslands looking for another target bird, the Banded Lapwing without success. BONUS a Spotted Harrier gave us a better fantastic showing. Time to head back to the city but not before stopping at Macquarie University to view 2 Shelducks and another bonus, a Sacred Kingfisher. There were such a biodiversity on this tour. Total count of 82 !!! Mike composed excellent e bird lists and a trip report. He answered my questions promptly by email as we flew home early the next day. As we reflect on this experience, it FAR exceeded our expectations - a Must do tour!
