This company provides snorkelling tours and scuba dive in Cape Byron Marine Park - Nguthungulli Julian Rocks Marine Sanctuary all year round. During winter, they organise Whale Watching tours - the only ones departing directly from Byron Bay.
They hold a permit from the NSW government for scientific research within the park. Their focus is on sea turtles, especially the Loggerhead turtles, as they are close to extinction locally. They run citizen science and conservation workshops with the aim of collecting sea turtle photographs for photo-identification of individuals and population monitoring.

I actually booked on to a dive trip on late notice (the day before) and these guys were happy to accommodate me. They’re a smaller school but very professional, great equipment and since they’re primarily a turtle conservation group they have so much information on the marine life in the area. Also booking with them also funds research so even more reason to choose them over others. Had a great dive, seen so many leopard sharks (10+) and multiple turtles, big thanks to Josh and Carmen!
Had a fantastic small group (8) whale watching experience with Turtle school - Byron Bay Dive Centre. Located in a cute cottage in a central location, the staff were extremely friendly and the welcome briefing was wonderful. The tour itself was amazing - we saw and heard the whales and the tour ran like clockwork. Josh was very knowledge. Thanks so much for a magical experience.
I went on a snorkeling tour to the Julian Rocks. The weather was terrible, but the tour wasn't canceled. We saw no underwater inhabitants because visibility was terrible, only a few small fish were barely visible. The tour didn't follow the itinerary. Because of the bad weather, we didn't swim along the rocks, as stated by the tour guide. Instead, we floundered in one spot in the murky water for 30-40 minutes. The tour was also on an inflatable vessel, and we weren't even allowed to put on life jackets because we were in such a hurry. I felt unsafe because the waves were big. Due to the time difference between Gold Coast and Byron bay, I was late for the tour 9.00 am, and they charged me twice to move me on the tour at 10.30. I ended up freezing, and there wasn't even a hot shower, only cold. I didn't get the service, but I paid for it twice. When I asked for a refund for at least one tour (I paid twice), they refused, citing their policies. I wouldn't do this horrible snorkelling even if I was paid for it. The photo shows a poster with sea creatures that we didn't see. And other photo with weather conditions.
What a great snorkelling trip to Julian Rocks in Byron Bay. The staff were all very friendly and extremely professional. A very clear presentation to start and a reminder of the safety procedures. Then it was off to the boat for a trip to the rocks Naomi led the snorkel session while Josh kept the boat nearby. All very safe and the visibility was clear with loads of brightly coloured fish and even a turtle. Absolutely magical on the way back to shore as a mummy and calf whale swam near the boat showing off their moves!
The best thing I’ve ever done! Don’t think, just book it! Awesome team and gear - the photos speak for themselves! (You can rent a GoPro off them too) ☺️🌊🐠🐬🐙🐢✨
