Fairy bower ocean pool is a small ocean water pool with fantastic views of the ocean and Manly Beach and Shelly Beach Manly ⛱️ great to relax and chill out to cool down on hot days 😀 there is much human traffic walking to Shelly Beach and back to Manly Beach ⛱️ great location.Fairy Bower Ocean Pool is widely considered one of the most picturesque swimming spots in Sydney. Located along the scenic Marine Parade walk between Manly Beach and Shelly Beach, this historic pool offers a unique, tranquil alternative to the crashing surf of the main beach.
The Experience: A Sculptural Masterpiece
What sets Fairy Bower apart is its distinct triangular shape and the iconic "Oceanides" sculptures (locally known as the "Sea Nymphs") that sit on its jagged rock edge. These tall, bronze figures by artist Helen Leete appear to dance in the waves, especially during high tide, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that is a magnet for photographers.

Pros Cons
Crystal Clear Water: Located in a protected marine reserve, the water is often incredibly clear. Small Size: Not ideal for serious lap swimmers; it’s more of a "dip and lounge" pool.
Marine Life: You can often see fish, rays, and even small sharks just over the pool wall. Crowds: Can get very busy on weekends and summer afternoons.
Amenities: Clean public toilets, open-air showers, and great cafes are just steps away. Minimal Shade: There is very little cover, so sun protection is a must.Local Tips for Your Visit
The Best Time: Aim for Sunrise. The light hitting the sculptures and the calm water is breathtaking. Alternatively, high tide provides a more immersive experience as waves occasionally wash over the wall.
Snorkeling: Bring your mask! While the pool is lovely, the Cabbage Tree Bay area just outside the pool wall is one of the best snorkeling spots in Sydney.
Safety: The pool has a painted, non-slip bottom, making it safer for children and elderly visitors compared to some of the more rugged rock pools in the area.
Nearby Eats: Stop at The Bower or Shelly Beach Boathouse afterward for a coffee or brunch with a view.
The Verdict
Fairy Bower Ocean Pool is less about fitness and more about atmosphere. It is a charming, community-built gem that feels like a natural part of the coastline. Whether you are looking for a refreshing dip after the walk from Manly or the perfect Instagram shot, this is a must-visit.
Note: Facilities are basic (changing rooms are rustic), so come wearing your swimsuit if you want to save time!

Use the triangular 1929 Fairy Bower sea pool as inspiration for being at the pointy end of Sydney summer. This sea pool was built by local residents (and what a good idea that was). It has magnificent views (including from the open air showers), and a painted (non-slimy) bottom that made me happy. Great for people-watching with a constant parade on the boardwalk. Would return in a heartbeat!

Stunning view of Manly, Shelley Beach and up the northern beaches coastline. Watch snorkellers and scuba divers search for sea life in the ocean while you relax in the safety of the ocean pool. Crystal clear and fresh ocean water. Change rooms and spots to sit adjacent. One of Sydney’s best ocean pools.
