Explore and enjoy the beauty of the evolving Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton. The former landfill is being regenerated into a showcase of Australian native plants set amongst distinct themed gardens and bushland. The gardens are designed to represent the cultural, environmental, historical and agricultural characteristics of the Shepparton and Goulburn Valley region.
The site consists of native grassy bushland, wetlands, and a seven hectare, 30 metre-high reclaimed landfill area with a lookout on top. This provides an expansive view of the local landscape and forms a significant landmark on the outskirts of the city, adjacent to the Goulburn and Broken Rivers.
There are a range of trails suitable for walking or cycling through the gardens. Climb up high to the top of Honeysuckle Rise where the lookout offers an expansive view above the treetops across local landscapes. Stroll through the beautifully designed themed gardens. Zig-zag down the Zig-Zag path to admire the sculptural beauty of the Weaving Garden, and meander through regenerated bushland on the River and Native Forest walks.
With seasonal changes and the ongoing development of new gardens and installations, there is always something new to see and enjoy at the Australian Botanic Gardens.

Such a perfect healing spot ๐ฟโจ
You do need to walk uphill a little, but once you reach the top, the sunset view is absolutely worth it. The scenery from above is beautiful and peaceful, making it a great place to just sit, relax, and take everything in. Itโs also nice for jogging or a slow, mindful walk. Very aesthetic, calm, and refreshing โ the kind of place that helps you reset.

Relaxing and fabulous place for exploring nature. People can have fun here by walk, bike, or skateboard. I enjoyed the River Walk and the Terrace Trail to the hill.
I sighted a kookaburra while approaching the railway, a lizard on the trail, and five planes flew over the garden.

This โgardenโ was an interesting experience. A lot of nice sculptures and installations but considering it was mainly designed to be all about preserving rare and endangered native plants, the only ones that were thriving were the native Winter Apple ground cover. We were desperate for the loo and couldnโt find one anywhere at this site. Finally hidden away was what looked like the workmenโs portaloo. Used it anyway!

Great place to stroll or power walk!
The top of the gardens has a nice view but it may be a bit steep for some with mobility issues.
The tracks are gravel and well formed.
There are many track options leading through a garden circuit, bush trek or track going all the way across to Aquamoves with a pleasant view of the river along the way.
There is wildlife in the area so be aware of your surroundings, especially during snake seasons.

Not much available for nix these days, however this is certainly providing as much as you would like dependant only on how far you would like to walk.
Number of tracks with individual characteristics, great for family photos, beware of the Odd Sun Baking Tiger or Brown that start to occasionally appear near water late September onwards!
