Camp jungai was great. Although we had potatos everyday and auntie was a bit interesting, she made us wash in leaves. My tent was on an ants nest. The hike was so bad. they made us hike 10km to see a 'waterfall' Waterfall as in one drop of water and the rest was covered by trees. IT was not fun. The river was the best part, we saw OTZI the iceman in the water. IT was so fun that my disposable undies dissolved. Great camp yay
I don't get what another person was saying about our group leader, but ig we all have different opinions? But majority of our group(which included 18 people) and a few from other groups all agreed that Finn Thomi or smth like that was an AMAZING group leader from the OEG. He was so nice to my group, and friendly and encouraging. He gave us breaks on the hike, and it was NOT his fault that our school had appointed us on the hike. I personally think that the hike was not that bad, considering that we could talk to our friends in the group, and was lowkey chill. Auntie was really nice, and definitely not as bad as the reviews described her. She was like a sweet lady. Finn was awesome considering that he was only 19 and we were his first group. The food in the cabins were not even that bad, and the roast chicken was tender, and the cabins were bigger and better than I imagined. Overall, before this camp, I thought it would be like really baddd, but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Like, there were bugs and we were all like terrified of them, but maybe it was my cabin and tent, but I didn't see any of them other than outside. Recommend for anyone who is going to bring bug spray and insect repellent tho...
respect care share mob didn't get food poisoning (HASHBROWNS FOR BREAKFASTTT), auntie didn't yell, and the water is kinda yellow but it won't make you sick. the leaves are alright but imo some of them just tasted really bad my group leader was amazing yea there were a few bugs (beetle, fly and others) in the tent but its nice to have the extra company (the fly's name is jerry) got evacuated from kendalls campground from a lightning storm in the first night
The camp wasn't as bad as they all say it is. (just read the headings u want soz for the long post) AUNTIE Auntie is a sweet old ladie who is just very connected to her culture. The 'eagle' she 'worships' is Bunjil who they believed was the creator of their land whom created everything and Auntie has every right to 'worship' it. FOOD AND WATER The food wasn't terrible, the chicken is tender, gravy plentiful. The food is only bad when your activity group cooks and if the people in your group are terrible cooks. The water looks 'yellow' because it is rainwater that is SAFE TO DRINK. You will not die from it, it is perfectly fine. THE HIKE The hike was long, but that was something that our school chose, not the camp. The camp group did their best to give us plenty of breaks so it was manageable. THE BUGS There was a lot of bugs I have to admit. At least 1 person in your group would have been stung by a wasp and another a bull ant. But if you don't harm them, they don't harm you. CABINS The cabins are crowded. 6 bunk beds, 12 beds in total, for my cabin, all 12 beds were occupied. It was sort of loud, but sleep, don't talk, you NEED sleep. TENTS Tents aren't that bad, but they are NOT SOUNDPROOF when one tent talks, EVERYONE hears it (bonus, so do the teachers who come over and tell you to shut up). You don't sleep on the very floor of the tent, you sleep on your sleeping bag which is on top of sleeping mats which are (not gonna lie) kind of stinky. ACTIVITIES canoeing If you have canoeing on a day where you aren't in cabins, it is not the end of the world. There are special showers for people who go canoeing. it's kinda fun. high ropes The high ropes is cool, you don't have to climb if you don't want to which is chill. but do it, you will probably regret it if you don't, it's kinda wobbly but it is super fun. survival or whatever it's called you build a hut, tarp and a fire (with flint and steel) it's kinda boring but useful for later life and other camps. orienteering not fun, the day we did it was hot and it was kinda boring. cultural session (with auntie) she shows you leaves, you eat them. It's not that bad. They don't taste amazing... but that's ok. TOILETS yay. the toilets at jungai were fine, but at the campsite, DO NOT go to the drop toilet unless you are DESPERATE. The porta potties aren't much better, but if you do look down, you don't see a bunch of poo. So go to porta potty, not drop toilet. OVERALL camp is tiring, so get your sleep (or you will regret it). AUNTIE IS ABSOLUTELY FINE. she is amazing and sweet.
I would like to say that I don’t understand what everyone thinks about aunty. She was really nice and gave us cool leaves. For an explanation of why she told students that they would be turned into rocks, in aboriginal culture, if you don’t follow the four rules of respect care share and mob, you are deemed selfish and will be turned into rocks. So the people who were told that they would be turned into rocks are selfish. The camp itself was pretty good as well.
