Footscray Park is the premier park of Melbourne's inner West. It is home to some of the City of Maribyrnong's main festivals and events, and a primary open space destination for community recreation and enjoyment. It provides fantastic views of Melbourne's skyline, Flemington Racecourse and connections to the Maribyrnong River Trail.
The 15-hectare park is located on the south bank of the Maribyrnong River and includes the most intact Edwardian period public garden in Victoria.
The garden was designed by noted architect Rodney Alsop, who won a competition for its design in 1911. The garden is classified as a heritage place on the Victorian Heritage Register for its aesthetic, horticultural and social significance to the State of Victoria and was the first garden to be placed on the register. It is noted for its botanical collection, ornamental ponds and garden structures. It also contains a memorial for soldiers who served in World War I and World War II and a mounted bust of the Australian poet and writer Henry Lawson.
Footscray Park also provides large open playing fields, a dog-off lead area and barbeque facilities along the River.
Beautiful and very well maintained park with plenty of shaded places, bbq areas, seating areas, benches, lovely river with ducks and fishing areas.
As good as a park can get close to the city! 🌆

I love Footscray Park. It’s huge, vast, quiet, beautiful and I adore that the Maribyrnong River is right there next to you. The loop along the river and against the Racecourse is really fun and a great length, especially for walking dogs. The Racecourse side is essentially “fenced” in the entire way, your dog can just run with you on the path since theyre bordered by the river and the giant wall of the Racecourse. There is one section that is on-leash but most of it you can let your dog off and they can have a splash in the river too.
It’s really disappointing that the adventure playground has been dismantled, and a lot of the beautiful paths and lakes have been fenced off for probably 5+ years now. Maribyrnong Council, please speed this up!

The 15 hectare park is located on the south bank of the Maribyrnong River in Footscray and largest and most intact Edwardian garden. The park occupies a wedge-shaped area of land, comprising hill and river flats, between Ballarat Road and the Maribyrnong River, opposite Flemington Racecourse. Lots of amenities including shady trees, bbq area and playing area for kids.
