About

The Heavenly Queen Temple is the largest Taoist temple in Australia, welcoming of individuals from all backgrounds. The temple is situated by the Maribyrnong River in Footscray and was built in honour of the Goddess of the Sea, Mazu.

The temple is situated on a site spanning approximately 40,000 square meters and is inspired by the Forbidden City in Beijing. Construction began in 2008, with various stages completed over the years. The temple complex showcases traditional Chinese architecture, designs and hand-painted detailing throughout.

You can access the temple by walking along the Maribyrnong River Trail, by train from Footscray Station, by bus by boarding routes 216, 219, and 402 or by car with ample parking on site. It's a 15 minute drive from Melbourne's Central Business District.

The temple is a non-profit organisation operating on donations and volunteers from the public.
