Once you glimpse Horse Head Rock, you’ll immediately understand how it came by its name. This distinctive rock formation off the Sapphire Coast near Bermagui not only resembles the neck of a graceful pony but is also historically significant – at more than 500 million years old, it’s one of NSW’s most ancient rock edifices.
The attraction is best viewed from the lookout platform accessed along the 1.5 kilometre one-way elevated walking track between Camel Rock and Murunna Point. If you set out around the rocks from Camel Rock Surf Beach, keep in mind it is only accessible during low tide and calm seas and climbing can be difficult.

I'm so glad we took the drive out to Horse Head Rock. We parked at Camel Rock beach and then followed the signs to Horsehead Rock. It was an easy walk for all fitness levels, as I am definitely not the fittest person. The views along the way are breathtaking, the water a beautiful mix of vibrant blues, and the rock looks like a horse drinking from the water. I'm not the best photographer but we met a couple at the signpost deciding if they should take the walk. I told her the walk was easy, showed her my photo and she was keen to get walking.

Follow the way and the spot deserve to take your time for enjoying 3 rocks during this road, you can also meet wallabies if you are lucky ;)

Pretty short walk but well worth the effort. Initially you approach from behind and see the horses butt, however keep going and from the correct angle it looks great.

Horse Head Rock is a truly beautiful and iconic destination along the Sapphire Coast. The beach near Horse Head Rock is stunning, with soft yellow sand and very clean surroundings, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful walk or a relaxing break. Access to the area is quite easy. There is a parking lot nearby, and finding a spot is usually not a problem, even during busier times. From the parking area, it’s just a short walk to the beach. There are also rubbish bins available, which helps to keep the area very clean. However, it’s good to know that there are no toilet facilities, so plan accordingly before your visit. The path to actually see Horse Head Rock can be approached in two ways. You can either walk to the viewpoint above, which offers a fantastic panoramic view, or head along the beach at low tide to get up close. Both options are rewarding and offer great photo opportunities. The natural beauty of the rock formations, combined with the golden sands and the deep blue ocean, creates a truly special atmosphere. Horse Head Rock is definitely worth a visit if you are traveling in the Bermagui area — a wonderful mix of raw nature and scenic coastline.

Awesome spot to visit, intermediate 750m walk. Lots of wildlife and lots of viewing platforms to stop at along the way. Lots of parking at the top woth a viewing platform for Camel Rock with a path down to the beach.
