Jounama Creek Walking Track

About
This walk starts at Jounama Creek campground, 500 metres off the Snowy Mountains Highway, near Talbingo. From the campground walk one kilometre to the end of the gravel road, where the walk begins.
Follow the walking track, which runs parallel to Jounama Creek and the valley floor, to the end here you’ll reach a large natural pool. It’s an ideal spot for a picnic, to drop a fishing line in, paddle your feet after the walk, or to simply sit quietly, listen to nature and watch for wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos. Return the same way.
Grade 3 walk, 6 kilmetres return 1-1.5 hours duration.

Great spot,$6 booking fee only. Drop toilets fine, need to bring own toilet paper. Kangaroos a plenty. Fire pits. Just a shame a big group camping on the night we were there thought it ok to let off 2 flares. Also a couple in a Ute offering firewood brought in 2 off leash dogs. Didnt think dogs were allowed in NP.

A great stay at Jounama Creek campground. Plenty of shaded areas to choose from, but given it is a free campground (booking fee only), first come first serve. We travelled in with our 17ft caravan and there were a few larger than ours with no problem entering. The ground is a bit uneven in some areas and if parking in the large grassy bit, mind which direction the sun rises and sets as the afternoon sun gets very hot! We were here during the January heatwave and whilst during the day the place gets a few visitors, sitting in the creek with a cool beverage in the afternoon/evening was the perfect way to cool off. Just mind the rocky bottom - some sand/water shoes come in handy for those with sensitive feet.

Popular spot for camping. Nice river running along the camping spots. It has double long drop toilet facilities and it’s close to town if you need to get fire wood or other supplies. Good for caravans as well. If you are fishing enthusiast you will get great spots along the river.

Good camping, very fresh water. There are not enough fire pits, and the grass needed cutting. I am not sure why we paid $6 to camp to NSPW as no one at any stage came to check we had paid. Obviously, a lot of people don't pay as in the camping area was over crowded. Perhaps people should have to print off their passes and hang on their tents like you have to do on Fraser Island.

Stunning 👈 The campsite has plenty of river/creek foreshore room for camping. The toilets are modern drop toilets and are almost odourless. The river has a great flow to it and there are many beach Style areas to swim at. The water even in summer is very refreshing and there are heaps of wildlife to enjoy including black cockatoos and kangaroos. The site is recovering from the 2019/2020 bushfires and staying there you must book through NSW Parks as part of there COVID safe practise. The campsite in the January school holidays is busy, so that feeling of isolation will rapidly decline even at 6PM when you're settling in for dinner and waiting for the stars to come. Thankfully the sound of the river dampens a lot of noise. Please remember ladies, that daylight will reveal all of your toilet paper, it's best to bag it up and dispose of it properly.
