End of Bradleys Head Wharf closed

Access restrictions are in place at Bradleys Head Wharf for public safety.

Engineering inspections have identified significant deterioration of the structure, including movement and deterioration of sandstone blockwork, voiding and scour beneath parts of the jetty.

NPWS has completed emergency stabilisation works to reduce the immediate risk of further deterioration or collapse. These works did not restore the wharf to a condition suitable for unrestricted public access.

Bradleys Head Wharf is a heritage structure. Assessment of the wharf requires consideration of:

    • Public safety
    • Heritage values
    • Visitor access and use
    • Environmental considerations
    • Coastal and marine processes
    • Long-term sustainability and maintenance requirements.

No final decision has been made. Further information will be provided as the assessment progresses. Thank you for your patience.

About

When you feel the need for a quick nature escape but don't have the time to get out of town, why not enjoy a weekend getaway in your own city? South of the harbour, between South Head and Camp Cove, this tiny beach packs a mighty punch with spectacular views. Ideal for those who enjoy a quiet swim on a beach, cozzies are optional as this is a designated nude bathing area.

Unroll the beach towel on some sensational real estate, as you gaze out over one of the most scenic harbours in the world, across to Middle Head. Enjoy a refreshing dip before tucking into a delicious picnic lunch.

If you feel like a walk, join South Head Heritage trail for more breathtaking views across to North Head and the South Pacific Ocean. Nearby historic Hornby Lighthouse, with its distinctive markings, is well worth a look. Remember to take your binoculars if you want to birdwatch or whale watch.

Beautiful little beach after a little uphill walk in Watsons Way almost hidden which is good take the stairs to go down be careful walking over the rocks. Not much sand area to sit on though depending on the tides. Clean water is amazing ( be mindful it's a nudist beach)
