Our visit to the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre today was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we owe a huge thank you to Tyreece. This was much more than a guided tour. It was an honest, heartfelt journey into the history, culture, traditions, and resilience of Australia’s First Nations peoples. Tyreece spoke with such passion, respect, and sincerity about their lives, their history of dispossession, and the values they continue to preserve. It was clear that this is not just his job—it is his calling. One moment that deeply touched me was when he explained that we were not standing on his own people’s Country. Out of respect for the Traditional Custodians of that land, he could not officially welcome us, but instead he acknowledge us as guests. That simple explanation said so much about the respect that exists between Aboriginal communities. He painted ancient symbols on our faces, wishing us a safe journey. It may seem like a small gesture, but to me it carried profound meaning. It felt as though we had been entrusted with a small part of a culture that has survived for tens of thousands of years. After today, I feel much closer to Australia’s Indigenous people than I ever did before. Tyreece’s stories, wisdom, and humanity helped me understand that Aboriginal culture is not just history—it is a living heritage that deserves our deepest respect and appreciation. Thank you for this unforgettable and deeply moving experience. I am certain I will remember this day for the rest of my life. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Gold Coast.
