The room was lovely with a giant window looking over the park. Thank you for the lovely birthday card and cupcake it was an absolute delight! The hotel is close to the art district and there are lots of place to eat near by. The renovations are a pain and the entrance of the hotel was a bit of a let down. There are no sits for the oldies and the room at reception is restricted and it really needs chairs or a clear place to stand or sit. The self check out are a terrible idea and the entire digital aspect of it only lets your young staff be even more so antisocial. The boys were nice but the girls could have been a little nicer. It's basically 'get in and get out get your bags and go thanks bye'. The snacks in the room had no price and that was annoying - on your website it was unclear as well. The texting was great with the front desk. The pool was nice and the overall hygiene was spot on. Overall a great hotel to stay when the renovations will be done
This was supposed to be such a special occasion for my birthday. I had brought my young family for their first resort experience. We got pool access and buffet breakfast included. Sadly within 30 mins of being in the room, we realised this was not going to happen as the restaurant didn't open until after 7am and 2 of us had to leave in the morning at 6.30am. I rang reception and spoke to reservations, I asked to change to a room only rate, and they said no. I spoke to the manager on duty and he said no. I asked to speak to the manager and was told id have to wait until Monday. I wasn't asking for a discount, just for the breakfast component to be taken off my room. I was told they couldn't. They didn't even try to help or offer any solutions (other then a breakfast box which doesnt have any hot food options and for the price of buffet breakfast really does no compare). I requested to speak higher and was told the Front Office manager had resigned (don't blame them honestly) and the new person didn't start till next week. Again this is not my problem. What was supposed to be a special occasion for my family, has been wrecked within 30 mins. All because they wouldn't offer me a refund on breakfast, not the room. This would not have affected the price of the room in any way. Don't come to the Novotel if you want to feel special, they will just disappoint you.
The stay was comfortable. Staff especially Ryan in catering were friendly and accomodating. The Hotel rooms are clean and comfortable. Be aware there is a $38 charge for parking which has a significant impact on affordability if you have a car. There was a $5 room service fee. This should be removed at least while the Bar is closed and the dining facilities are being renovated. The Hotel is in a good location, walk to West End and South Bank, over the bridge into the city.
I would say as a solo female traveller, this hotel missed when it came to basic safety concerns. I was placed in a connecting room which is a no brainer to not put a solo female in but I had to let it pass as I was told the hotel was sold out when I asked for a higher floor at check in. I then noticed the room overlooking a sort of fake grass area which seemed nice instead of concrete, until I realized while walking back from the pool that it appeared that guests could go to this area judging by the sign for guest and the key card beside the door. So not only did I have the connecting door to contend with but I now had a wall of windows that anyone could just walk up to and peak inside. It just made me feel uncomfortable for my two nights at the hotel.
The hotel has a side walk through to the convention centre, and a very quick walk to South Bank. Undergoing some renovations at present, this will make it even better than it was. Food is awesome, well worth dining in if you cannot be bothered to dine out. I also like the fact the rooms are very quiet. Only drawback the hotel has is no laundry. If you can cope with that its a great location which is close enough to the city and just enough out of it.
