Smithy's Sunset Cruise
The colours of the outback come alive at sunset as you glide down the Thomson River aboard the Longreach Explorer. After a warm welcome by their experienced crew, take your seat on the top deck, ready to capture 360-degree sweeping, river and floodplain views. Your Skipper will enthral you with captivating stories about the river, its wildlife and Indigenous heritage. Icy cold drinks are available for purchase from the licensed bar. Photo opportunities are endless, but the stop at Sunset Bend is a hands-down favourite. As you leisurely cruise back to the dock, you will see stunning, vibrant sunset colours as they fade into starlight. Pickup times are from 4:30 pm, with pickup times adjusted throughout the year for the perfect sunset on the Thomson River. The experience lasts approximately 3 hours.
Drover's Sunset Cruise
After a warm welcome by their experienced crew, take your seat on the top deck of the Longreach Explorer ready to capture 360-degree sweeping river and floodplain views. Their Skipper will enthral you with captivating stories about the river, its wildlife and Indigenous heritage. See the curious Emmott’s short-necked turtles at sunset bend. Purchase an icy cold drink from the licensed bar to pair with complementary savoury nibbles. As the vibrant sunset colours fade into starlight, they dock at Smithy’s Outback Dinner and Show. Relax under the stars with table-service dining featuring camp-oven themed modern cuisine. Live on stage, the talented musical performer will entertain you with their songs and stories. Pickup times are from 4pm, and the experience lasts approximately 4.5 hours. This tour operates 6 days a week from15 April – 15 October 2025. Book early to experience this multi-award winning outback experience.
Smithy's Outback Dinner and Show
Settle back and enjoy an evening to remember, dining under the stars beside the Coolibah-lined Thomson River. Enjoy full table service as you tuck into a delicious two-course camp oven themed dinner at Smithy’s, followed up with freshly baked damper and billy tea. A good selection of wine and cold beer is available for purchase from their licensed bar. Live on stage their talented outback performers will entertain you with their songs and stories. A night out at the award-winning Smithy’s is a ‘must do’ when in Longreach! This tour operates in conjunction with the Drover’s Sunset Cruise. Pickup times are from 5pm, and the experience lasts approximately 3.5 hours. Smithy’s Outback Dinner and Show booking only are available Monday, Wednesday, & Friday April-May. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from June 1 – Sept 30.

We enjoyed a fabulous evening at the Outback Dinner & Show. The bus driver, hostesses and entertainer were welcoming, friendly and professional. Dinner was delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced with a wide variety available. We had a great night!

What a great night. Sam and Joyce showed great hospitality, their sense of humour made the tour entertaining. Smithy’s afterwards was a lovely tribute to the Longreach and Australian unique brand of life. Well done. PS Liam the entertainer was brilliant.

The trip to the top of Queensland was memorable. The food was outstanding, and the accommodation was pretty good. The transport, a 4WD bus, was comfortable. The driver and guide were lovely people who cared for us well beyond what I think was required. I went to places I never ever thought I would. It was eleven days of adventure at a price we could afford
