About

Rainforest To Bush Cultural Experiences is an Aboriginal family-owned tour company based on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, offering immersive and authentic experiences that share the richness of both rainforest and bush culture.

Their rainforest heritage comes from the Yidinji Nation, and their bush heritage from the Mbabaram Nation. Together, they bring these two neighbouring cultures to life—showcasing the traditions, stories, and lifestyles of an Aboriginal family raised between two distinct landscapes.

Their tours and experiences offer participants a rare opportunity to interact with Aboriginal guides on a personal level, fostering educational, meaningful, and authentic connections that leave a lasting impression of both traditional and contemporary Aboriginal culture.

They cater to individual travellers, touring and school groups, offering a range of private experiences such as 2-hr and overnight camping tours, as well as tailored itineraries for special groups.

Experience the heart of Aboriginal culture—from the rainforest to the bush—through genuine connection, storytelling, and shared tradition.

Walk On Yidinji Country With a Traditional Custodian

Cathedral Fig: Make your own way to the Cathedral Fig on Boar Pocket Road, where you will meet your Cultural Guide. Begin with a Welcome to Country and an introduction to the Traditional Homelands of the Yidinji people, including the cultural boundaries of neighbouring clans. A short rainforest walk leads to the Cathedral Fig, a towering 500-year-old strangler fig of great cultural and historical significance. Beneath its canopy, learn about rainforest traditions, local history, traditional foods, kinship systems, seasonal calendars, and Yidinji responsibilities in caring for Country. You will also have the opportunity to view traditional tools and try using a woomera spear thrower. Lake Barrine: From here, follow your guide to Lake Barrine, a 12,000-year-old volcanic crater lake within Dulguburra-Yidinji lands. Hear the Yidinji creation story of the lake and visit the towering Twin Kauri Pines, where discussions explore the timber industry, colonial history, and their lasting impacts on Yidinji people and land management. The tour concludes at Lake Barrine, leaving you with a deeper understanding of Yidinji culture, history, and connection to Country.
