Among the eclectic range of shops and cafes on Brisbane Street in Ipswich’s historic Top of Town precinct is the treasure trove known as The Vintage Advantage.

Owner Glen Smith, a luminary of the city’s art scene, has amassed an extraordinary collection and a following that extends to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Toowoomba. Step in through the tiled façade that still bears the name Lutvey’s after the clothing shop that occupied the space in the 1950s and you are suddenly surrounded by nostalgia-inducing displays from floor to ceiling.

There are racks of vintage clothing, cabinets crammed with costume jewellery and accessories, and an intriguing mix of decorative pieces, furniture, art and collectables. Those with heritage homes will find myriad ways to pour some period charm into their interiors.
