Alice Springs Reptile Centre specialises in things that hiss and slither, which are rare, impossible, or undesirable to come across in the wild. Home to over 100 reptiles, the centre displays its inhabitants in recreations of their natural environment.
Enter the Gecko Cave to see the different species of this diminutive and shy lizard from around Alice Springs, the Barkly Tablelands and the Top End. View Terry the Saltwater Crocodile through glass underground, which gives you a glimpse into his underwater world and offers great photo opportunities. See huge Goannas such as the Perentie as well as the show-off Frill-neck Lizards and desert-dwelling Thorny Devils.
Handle a Python or see the lizards being fed. Some of the world’s most venomous snakes, including Inland Taipans, Brown Snakes, Death Adders and Mulga (King Brown) snakes are on display, safely behind glass.
If you’re visiting during the cooler months (May to August), the recommended viewing times are between 11am and 3pm when the reptiles are most active.
Schedule your visit around an interactive talk and handling session with one of our knowledgeable and passionate staff members, which are conducted daily.

Alice Springs Reptile Centre is an interesting place to get up close with Australian reptiles, including various lizards, snakes, and native species. Some sessions also include interactive displays and informative talks, making it suitable for families and animal enthusiasts. However, during this visit, there seemed to be fewer animals on display than expected, and some exhibits felt a bit limited, which was slightly disappointing. The centre is still clean and well maintained, and staff provide basic information about the animals. Overall, it remains a worthwhile short visit for educational purposes, though expectations should be kept moderate.
We had such a great time here yesterday. Emily was amazing! The ‘show’ is what makes the visit - she was so friendly, informative and great with the kids. Genuinely lovely girl! The boys absolutely loved holding the different lizards and snakes and it didn’t feel rushed, they got the really experience and learn about the different species. The centre may not have all the bells and whistles…. Yet! But we felt so welcome from the moment we arrived and never felt like we were just another family being pushed through a show. Everyone took the time to chat, share their knowledge and make it a fun experience. The new owner is doing a fantastic job and it's great to see people who are so passionate about what they do and sharing that with the world! We will definitely be back! And seeing Terry the croc was a bonus! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Alice. Thanks for having us guys!!
This was an OK setup with minimal staff. It seemed like every other tank was empty with a sign on it saying as such, and the gecko room was simply loaded with chairs so you could not actually walk around, let alone see the tanks in there at all. The informative talk was good, which allowed people/children to hold a few safe specimens. But I would recommend the Desert Nature Park above this place. I waited around ages to buy a couple of knick-knacks and after a long time there was still no one on the desk, so I left and continued on.
Very educational and interactive experience for kids to enjoy. I would recommend for families and people who love reptiles to visit here.
Unfortunately this place was very boring. We had a demonstration about what to do if we find a snake or get bitten by a snake which was very long and not really needed - the presenter was lovely, so not her fault. They then showed us one Thorny Devil and one Croc - no other reptiles at all - and we were ushered out. Very quick trip to see nothing! I'm glad I didn't pay for it!!
