Visit the Hermannsburg Potters to see their renowned hand-built terracotta pots that are decorated with vibrant sculpted animals, landscapes, and bush tucker.
The Hermannsburg Potters enjoy a national and international reputation for their unique pots that are decorated with ceramic underglazes. The lids support colourful sculpted animals, birds and bush tucker. The belly of the pot is painted with the striking landscapes of the area. The Hermannsburg Potters are also painting their designs onto canvas, with eye-catching results.
You can see and purchase the work of the Hermannsburg Potters at the Kata Anga Tea Rooms and the Namatjira Gallery in the Hermannsburg Heritage Precinct. There is also a display at the Araluen Centre in Alice Springs.
Visiting the Hermannsburg Potters is by appointment only.
Truly an amazing experience and worth visiting the pottery collective on your trip! Beautiful ceramics, I was able to meet all of the artists who are all so friendly, lovely and welcoming. I highly recommend visiting! I ended up purchasing a beautiful crow pot made by Michelle with the help of the shop assistant Peter, who explained the pot in detail and the story around. I also got to pet some cute camp puppies! Cons - I did think the space was a little smaller than what I expected, once inside, the exhibition/gallery size is quite small. Looking forward to the much needed upgrade!
Love this place. Third visit and this time I was able to but a piece of my own!
Wonderful to see the artists at work. We bought some pieces and felt very much at home watching the art being made in front of us.
Quirky but talented indigenous artists work here. Unfortunately, during these 'Covid' times, the Pottery is not open to the public, for obvious reasons. Check google to keep up to date with the situation. It is well worth a visit when you are in the Red Centre!
Lovely to be welcomed into their art space where we could talk to these beautiful talented women and watch them create their amazing work.
