About

Franklin River Rafting runs multi-day whitewater rafting expeditions on Tasmania's wild Franklin River, led by experienced guides handpicked for their skill, knowledge and deep connection to the river.

Their 8- and 9-day expeditions combine challenging whitewater, spectacular scenery, great food and the simple pleasure of spending time together in one of Tasmania's most remote and extraordinary places. No previous whitewater rafting experience is required, just a sense of adventure, a reasonable level of fitness and a willingness to get wet, work together and embrace the journey.

From the moment you leave the road behind, the Franklin becomes your world. You'll paddle through powerful rapids, explore ancient landscapes, camp beside the river and experience a part of Tasmania that can only be reached by water.

They're a small, family-owned operation and they genuinely love this river. Their aim is simple: to share the Franklin with you, look after you along the way and give you an adventure you'll still be talking about long after you've dried out.

Franklin River Rafting 8 day Expedition

Franklin River Rafting 8 day Expedition

8 Day Full Franklin River The eight-day trips cover the full length of the river from the Collingwood Bridge on the Lyell Highway to the Gordon River and Strahan on Tasmania's West Coast. Running over two weekends, the eight-day full river trips are ideal for those wanting to see the entire Franklin but can only take a little time off work. See the beautiful Irenabyss, the awe-inspiring Great Ravine and the magnificent Rock Island Bend, best known as the image that helped save the river by Peter Dombrovskis. Over 40 years since the Franklin was saved and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Area, it still continues to inspire. Come celebrate this beautiful place with us. This trip doesn't include the Frenchmans Cap hike. If you really want to summit Frenchmans Cap (1446m) as part of your Franklin adventure, our 9-Day Franklin + Frenchmans Cap expedition is the one for you. No rafting experience needed, max 12 guests, family-owned.

Franklin River Rafting 9 day expedition

Franklin River Rafting 9 day expedition

9-Day Franklin River + Frenchmans Cap. Our ultimate Franklin expedition: nine days covering the full Franklin River from Collingwood Bridge on the Lyell Highway to the Gordon River and Strahan, plus a full day ascent of Frenchmans Cap (1446m), the white quartzite dome of Tasmania's South West World Heritage Area. The ascent is steep and rewarding, climbing from ancient temperate rainforest to open alpine moorland and the summit, with 360-degree views over the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. The rest of the journey is pure Franklin: powerful rapids including The Cauldron and Thunderush, the tranquil Irenabyss, the awe-inspiring Great Ravine, and Rock Island Bend, the iconic image by Peter Dombrovskis that helped save the river. This trip is for those who want the full river plus the summit. No previous rafting or climbing experience required, just reasonable fitness, sense of adventure and willingness to work as a team. Small family-owned Tasmanian operation, maximum 12 guests, all meals, quality equipment and experienced guides included. If you want the river without the Cap, see our 8-Day Full Franklin.
