We had such a fantastic day at the zoo. One of the absolute highlights was the included budgie feeding, which happens twice a day. Standing in the aviary with birds swooping around, landing on your arms and perching on the feeding sticks, is loads of fun and something you don’t get to experience everywhere. The animal talks held throughout the day were another standout. The keepers clearly know their stuff, and the sessions were genuinely informative without feeling too long or too formal. Make sure you grab some animal food—feeding the kangaroos, emus, cows and alpaca adds so much to the visit. In the barn yard exhibit you can pet a bunny, which is lots of fun for younger children. The lion and Tasmanian devil feedings were also fascinating to watch, and you get surprisingly close to the animals compared to some of the larger zoos. We loved wandering through the exhibits of meerkats, marmosets, tamarins, Australian native animals and zebras. There’s a great variety, and everything feels well cared for. To round out the visit, there’s a small aqyarium, lovely gift shop, plenty of picnic tables if you want to bring your own food, and a café onsite for snacks and drinks. Overall, a really enjoyable zoo experience with lots of hands-on moments and close-up encounters. Highly recommended for families, animal lovers, or anyone wanting a fun day out.
Decided to road trip around Tasmania this past week and ended up stopping past the Hobart Zoo & aquarium. Although not a massive zoo. It was so much better than I had thought. It was good how you can walk around and see the animals and in some cases interact with them! So much better than just looking at them through a glass. While we were there we met Stuart (owner of the zoo) he was more then happy stop and chat to us and answer any questions we had. He let us come with him to experience the monkey feeding encounter that they offer at the zoo. Having a squirrel monkey sitting on your shoulder stealing treats out of your hand was the highlight of my trip! Can’t wait to see what else Stuart and the team can do with the zoo and see what other cool animals they add In the future. Highly recommend going past if you are heading to Tasmania or just driving around looking for a cool place to visit. Keep up the good work Stuart, nice meeting you mate
The staff are amazing and the animals are happy, healthy, and loved. It was my second visit and I treated myself to the marmoset experience, led by Kalinda, that was phenomenal and her relationship with the primates was really special to see. They have a commitment to accessibility and do everything they can to make it a special experience. The budgie feeding included in entry is such a special treat, and another shout to Isabel for showing us the upside down jellyfish feeding when she saw how into them our family group was. Awesome day, well worth a visit, and I'll definitely be back!
Smaller than other zoos we’ve visited. Nice area for kids to play. Toilets are okay. Our favourite part was the bird feeding place - they give you a stick with seeds and the birds just come towards you! So fun!! I’d go back just for that 🤣 Also, Emma, I think her name is, is very knowledgeable and friendly. She told us about some of the birds outside and their personalities. Below are some of the lovely animals we encountered 😁!
We visited recently whilst in Hobart and I think this is one of the best small zoos ever. There are plenty of animals to see, mostly Australian, but a few exotic ones. There's lots of picnic tables for families to enjoy their lunch and plenty for the kids to do. The aquarium was very interesting. It was easy to buy the tickets on-line but you can get them on-site just as easily. It wasn't a very busy day as the kids had mostly all returned to school. It's only about 30 minutes from Hobart and easy to find. We had a very enjoyable time there.
