All around the world, crowds gather to admire our seahorses in famous aquariums. But you can get much closer to these mysterious creatures at our completely unique facility at Beauty Point, in the beautiful Tamar Valley, less than a one-hour drive from Launceston or Devonport.
Your 50-minute tour commences in "The Cave" which is home to a selection of seahorses and sea dragons. Here you will learn about seahorses and their mysterious behaviour.
You'll then move into "The Farm" where you get an exclusive 'behind the scenes look at Australia's only working seahorse farm. This is where we feed the seahorses and you can see thousands of them in all stages of life from tiny fingernail-sized babies to the larger breeding adults.
Seahorse World is also one of the only places in the world that you can see the Critically Endangered red and spotted Handfish. Included in the tour is the Hands of Hope Exhibit, dedicated to showcasing the endeavors to save this beautiful fish.
The final room is "The Southern Ocean Aquarium", where they showcase some of the bizarre and mystical creatures found in Tasmanian waters. In this room, you'll also have the opportunity to get hands-on and touch some of the creatures from the deep, as well as hold a seahorse in the palm of your hand.

This place is also amazing. You Definitely will not be disappointed. Seahorses up close, other crustaceans, you can hold a seahorse. Access was great. Definitely a while family activity.
It was definitely a different experience and wasn’t expecting it, but we had a wonderful time. The staff are amazing very informative. Gave us heaps of time to ask for questions and take lots of photos. So it is more a tour than you walk around yourself goes for roughly an hour. They go through each section and explain the different types of seahorses where they’re from and also show you different breeding stages. They also let us hold a seahorse, which was a nice surprise.
Amazing and very informative guide through Seahorse World. They are such beautiful and very smart creatures. Learnt so much about not just Seahorses but much of an amazing job the people at Seahorse world do to look after and maintain the wonderful ecosystem and keep this awesome guys thriving!!!!
If you are planning a visit to Seahorse World expecting a magical aquarium experience, you might want to adjust your expectations. It is advertised as an aquarium, and the very beginning kind of feels like one, but that magic disappears incredibly fast. The tour abruptly transitions into what is undeniably a mass-production seahorse factory and nursery. It was never made clear to us before visiting that we were essentially paying to walk through a commercial hatching company. You are suddenly met with bare, industrial tanks crammed with thousands of seahorses, without a single natural element in sight. It is honestly not pretty to look at and feels far removed from marine appreciation. Instead of leaving with a sense of wonder, we left feeling disappointed. The advertising felt misleading, and the entire place desperately feels like it could use a lot more love and transparency about how it actually operates. I cannot recommend this if you are looking for a genuine, nature-focused aquarium visit.
Unique and interesting spot. The tour was very informative, and we learnt loads about seahorses, their habitat, and their conservation. The highlight that we feel should be advertised more is the hand fish conservation they contribute towards. We got to see a few in tanks and learning about how endangered they are and how conservation (backed by the facility itself) is helping them start to slowly bounce back was really cool and unique to Tasmania. Worth a visit!
