Situated 84km away from the heart of Adelaide CBD, these magnificent Clydesdale horses pull the tram along the causeway from the coastal town of Victor Harbor to the stunning Granite Island.
The tram covers the 630-meter causeway, offering trips throughout the day for visitors heading to Granite Island's picturesque landscape. Around 100,000 visitors enjoy the ride annually, with over 2 million passengers having traveled on this historic service since 1986.
Originally launched by the South Australian Railways in 1894, this unique tramway draws visitors from all corners of the globe. Whether it's the nostalgic experience of traveling on heritage transport, crossing the sea to reach the island, exploring the nature walks, spotting marine life, or simply meeting one of the Clydesdales, the tram offers something for everyone.
Once on Granite Island, climb the boardwalk stairs and follow the Kaiki Trail for breathtaking views of Victor Harbor and Encounter Bay from the island's many scenic vantage points.

It was closerld because of hot and windy weather the day we visited. Only reason we went all the way there was to see the train cart pulled by the majestic horses, as this is spoons going to be closed forever. Did not get to see any horses in the stable too. Rest everything went well. Perfect summer weather, had a climb up the granite island, took a stroll around the town, children enjoyed the rides at the fair. Icecreams on a hot day :) should not b missed.

The Horse Drawn Tramway was an absolutely fantastic experience. The horses were well trained and well treated by the staffs, and it seems like they take turns after a doing few trips. The carriages themselves were beautifully made and very comfortable. We set upstairs and the view was amazing on both side. We recommend taking the tram there and walk on the way back, as it both give different perspectives of the harbour. No need to prebook tickets when we were there, just wait on the stand and the ticket officer will come to you.

I'm pretty annoyed with Victor Horse drawn Trams. They have very vague instructions about when they operate. The one day we were going to go on the horse drawn tram but we went on the Cockle Train first and then it broke down. So I rang Victor Harbor horse drawn tram to find out if we could still make the last horse tram. The girl was really vague and said that there might be a 2pm tram. So we decided by the time the Cockle train got us back to Victor Harbour we would probably not make it. So the next day we went to the Cube and instead of staying to look at the art we raced back to Victor Harbour to catch the 1pm horse drawn tram. We got there at 12.50pm. Sign said closed, but we were relieved to see the horse drawn tram coming over the causeway. As they passed us I said when will the tram be coming back to pick us up. Her response was 'sorry, the last 2 trams are cancelled'. WHY?WHY? WHY? Why the hell can't they put it on their website early if they aren't going to run them. Shoddy way to run a business I think 😜The girl said'come back tomorrow' yeah well that would have been good if we weren't leaving to go back to Brisbane. Not happy Jan!!!🥴
