Blackdog Surfing is a family-owned company that has a licence to teach surfing on the beautiful beaches of Byron Bay.
Byron Bay has the best learn to surf waves in Australia and is also suitable for all levels of surfers. Blackdog Surfing guarantees you will stand up on your first lesson or come again free!
Everything you will need to go surfing is provided, all you have to bring are swimmers, a towel plus a smile.
They have a group and private Surf Lessons. Their group lessons are for ages 12yrs and up!

Toby and Tam are the BEST! 🌊. It was my first time surfing, so I was a bit nervous, but Tam’s helpfulness and Toby’s passion set me at ease. Toby has a fabulous teaching approach; uncomplicated, easy to follow and safe to get you started with surfing. 🏄♀️🌊 My fiancée has a bit more experience than me, and he agreed that Toby was the best instructor he’s had. I watched as in under 30 minutes my partner was already paddling and catching his own waves! I’d recommend this family-owned company to EVERYONE who was interested in surfing in Byron Bay. A perfect afternoon out on the water!

Hands down the best surf lesson I have ever had. Really nice people that work here and the quality of the lesson was great. The instructor took his time and he was very patient with everyone…And you get free popcorn at the end! Would 100 percent recommend this surf shop for anyone coming to Byron and looking to learn how to surf or rent a board.

Best surf school in town. Tam is an absolute legend and Toby a brilliant instructor. Love that they let you just rent a board and then tag along with the lesson, so you can do your own thing but get taken to the best spots. And post surf popcorn!! Loved it. Thanks guys

I can’t recommend the team at Blackdog highly enough. From the moment we arrived we were put at ease and nothing was too much trouble. We had the wonderful Luca as our instructor and he was great! We were each coached on how to individually improve our surfing, and encouraged. Plus, the location definitely helped! And then right down to the finishing touches like warm popcorn when we got back to the centre to watch the footage of our surf. 10/10 guys, thank you

Best surf school and rental in Byron Bay! My experience with them was awesome. Either you want to learn and do a lesson or you just rent a board they are super attentive taking you to the beach and providing all the information.The vibes are super positive and the classes very helpful for learning with reduced groups. I’ll definitely come back!
