After arrival take a leisurely stroll to Macenmist’s truffiere. Then meet their truffle dogs Fahren and Tawdiffu. You will be following one of the hounds in a search for the black diamonds, better known as Perigord black truffles. After smelling the aroma that permeates the soil they harvest the truffle in true archaeological style. From the frosty start they return to the cosy atmosphere of the truffle shed. Partake of a warm beverage while savouring delicate truffle samples. Watch how to clean and grade truffle and learn something of the mystic that surrounds them. At the tour conclusion Macenmist also encourages cellar door sales of its produce together with locally produced goods from the region.

One of the best ways to discover the fascination of the black perigord truffle is to join a hunt followed by a three course truffle lunch. Begin to understand some of the mystic surrounding truffles as you trail truffle dog paws and watch them display their olfactory skills. Once the dogs discover truffle, the heady aroma of the soil indicates a buried treasure. You will then be able to partake in unearthing this black gem. After the hunt your taste buds are about to sample one of the world’s most sought after flavours. Your journey from “paddock to plate” commences. It’s now time to sit back, relax and enjoy a leisurely three course truffle luncheon in warm rural surrounds. The Macenmist Vineyard is still in its infancy so in 2017 you can Bring Your Own wine to enjoy with your lunch.

Too late for breakfast too early for lunch…… join them for a truffle brunch. Warm up in their newly renovated truffle barn before enjoying a hearty truffle start to the day. It’s during these Winter months that the morning frosts herald the arrival of the ripening fungi that their Lagotto Romagnolo dogs are expertly trained to find. Prior to venturing outside a short film clip outlining what to expect on the hunt is screened. Then it’s time to fetch a truffle dog and proceed to the truffle plantation. Their hunts are interactive and given time they encourage someone to assist with unearthing the elusive black gold. After the hunt they return to the truffle barn where they again sample truffle morsels of various varieties. During this time you will also learn how to clean, grade and package truffle ready for market. At the tour conclusion Macenmist also encourages cellar door sales of its produce together with locally produced goods from the region.
