Travelling with a 6-month-old is already an Olympic sport — the last thing you need is a hotel actively working against you. We stayed in a 3rd floor apartment and, despite being in what appeared to be a high-rise building, the windows and doors offered all the sound insulation of a damp paper bag. The symphony of traffic and late-night street philosophers ensured we didn't so much sleep as occasionally lose consciousness between disturbances. A blissful weekend away, it was not. The living area greets you with a scent that sits somewhere between 'vintage op shop' and 'unresolved regret.' The furniture has a certain nostalgic quality — if by nostalgic you mean it appears to have been sourced entirely from a 1987 deceased estate, lovingly preserved in all its oak-veneer. You half expect to find a tin of butterscotch candies on the coffee table. The cushions, bless them, are present in a purely ceremonial sense; decorative suggestions of comfort rather than anything structurally committed to the concept. The windows, meanwhile, offer a masterclass in coastal neglect — so thoroughly caked in salt from the nearby beach that gazing through them feels less like enjoying a view and more like squinting at the world through a licked chip packet. One can only assume they haven't been cleaned since the building was erected, or possibly since the ocean was invented. The bedroom carpets deserve a special mention: rippling with enough rolls to put a Vietnamese bakery to shame, they add a certain abstract art installation quality to the room — presumably unintentional. If you're seeking the pinnacle of mediocrity at prices that are anything but, look no further. For those wanting actual rest, actual sleep, or actual value — I'd suggest literally anywhere else.
Celebrating an anniversary, and needing overnight accommodation close to both Mooloolaba restaurants and the wharf, I chose Newport Mooloolaba Apartments. It is one of the few accommodation providers in the area not requiring a two night minimum stay, as it has five ground level 'motel' rooms for overnighters. Its location could not be more perfect, sitting right beside the Sealife and Wharf complexes, and one block's walk from the Mooloolaba Surf Club, the beach and all the nearby esplanade shops and food venues. It has a guaranteed parking space (everything is so close you won't need to move the car again), beautifully maintained pool and lawn areas (including sauna and BBQs), and the 'motel' rooms are so much more. Our tiled main room was huge, with kitchen area, full sized fridge and microwave, and the bathroom included not only a spacious shower but washing machine, dryer and laundry tub. Much more than we needed for an overnighter, but greatly appreciated, as was the friendly service on check-in.
I can recommend Newport Mooloolaba as a place to stay in the strongest terms. Newport is really first-class in all sorts of ways for holiday, apartment break. We required a room with wheelchair access, and it was just perfect for disabled guests. Ben, Tammy, Hannah and Emma are just so lovely, friendly, helpful and very accommodating. They give any assistance you may need, and with kindness, support and smiles The building is well kept; the cleaning and servicing of rooms is terrific. Newport is simply a most relaxing, laid back, comfortable holiday location. You will not be disappointed. Colin O'Gorman
Air con was limited to living room, but there were fans in all rooms, very traffic noisy next to the main street, but great location, great service, good shops and eating near the apartment and if course the beach is right there.
The location and views are 5 stars definitely. The room we stayed in although spacious and nice, lacked basic maintenance and upkeep. The hot water system capacity was not great for the 5 of us. We had to have really quick showers so that everyone could get warm water in this cold weather. Definitely almost 5 star worthy.
