We loved visiting this historical place. It was great to see rooms full of equipment now outdated. The steps where Gough Whitlam stood, the areas where the decisions were made. We highly recommend this for historical education. A beautiful old building.
Always well worth taking the time to explore when in Canberra. We have visited here many times over the years - even when it WAS Australia's Parliament House. I even presented a conference paper here and later enjoyed a drink at the bar area :-) This building has MANY fond (and not so happy) memories for so many Australians. Here are a few photos...
This place is absolutely brilliant. Artwork displayed in the middle that is topical to the moment, and then surrounding that the incredible 70s - as i personally recall them too - brought to life, and of course before and after that decade. The tupewriters, the cabinet room, the offices, the furniture - and ashtrays of course! Those were the days. Its superb. So worth seeing. And the gift shop is lovely with the nicest gentleman, we had s great chat. Such a great place!
Really well put together exhibits. Loved how we were able get up and close to the inner workings of the Australian democracy system (even of yesteryear). Nice to see a lot of attention paid to the people 'behind the scenes' too. Well worth a visit. Free parking on weekends and public holidays. Had a little issue with the playUP when the attendant KG wouldn't let our son do arts and crafts even with 15 minutes left (we arrived 1215 and were informed that it's from 1030 to 1230).
Visiting the Old Parliament House was a wonderful experience. I learned so much about Australia’s political history through the informative exhibits. I was so fascinated that I even bought a replica of Queen Elizabeth’s ring from the gift shop as a special souvenir. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys history!
