Giraffe Feed
Hand feed a gentle giant. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be knee-high to a giraffe? Come face-to-face with the world’s tallest living mammal as they wrestle a carrot from your hands! Tiger Encounter

Come face-to-face with a majestic Sumatran Tiger and get the exclusive opportunity to hand feed them a meaty treat. Learn all about this fascinating species from a dedicated carnivore keeper and hear how Adelaide Zoo’s conservation efforts contribute towards saving this beautiful species Please note the minimum age for this experience is 10 years.
Mini Beasts
Tiny creatures, big personalities! Join knowledgeable keepers and experience a world where mini beasts rule. Get up close to colourful and crawly species like stick insects, fascinating reptiles, arachnids or amphibians and learn about how important they are in keeping our ecosystems healthy. Whether you’re young, old, a bug-lover or not-so-sure about little critters, we’ll teach you how to appreciate these unique animals and how to become an insect and invertebrate guardian at home!
Pygmy Hippo Lunchtime
Hand feed Obi, the lovable Pygmy Hippopotamus! Smaller than a common hippopotamus, Obi the Pygmy Hippo is a cheeky chap who loves to swim, wallow in his mud bath and roll around in hay. This hefty herbivore weighs around 250kg thanks to his healthy appetite for vegetables, leafy greens and hay. This is your chance to go behind the scenes to see Obi’s chompers up close! Hand feed him some tasty treats and ask all your hippo-related questions to a dedicated ungulate keeper. See Obi’s gorgeous little ears wiggle, his tail swish and watch his impressive jaw munch through lunch. Obi loves exploring new things, especially enrichment designed to keep him physically and mentally stimulated – and what better form of enrichment than human visitors with tasty treats! Please note the minimum age for this experience is 10 years.
Red Panda Breakfast
Feed breakfast to one of Adelaide Zoo’s russet Red Pandas. Before the zoo opens, join the panda keepers to feed the smallest panda a tasty breakfast treat! During the exclusive experience, you’ll go into the Red Panda habitat, hear all about this incredible and endangered animal, and learn the inside scoop on zoo residents Ravi and Mishry. Red Pandas are found in the wild in the Himalayas and south-western China, and spend most of their lives in trees, their main source of food is bamboo but they also eat a variety of fruits, leaves and eggs. Unfortunately wild populations are declining, with habitat loss due to human developments being one of the biggest contributors to the species endangerment. Please note, Red Pandas Mishry and Ravi are part of the regional breeding program and we’re thrilled that plans are underway for introductions and breeding in 2024. During breeding season, some experience times are unavailable and we thank you for your understanding and best breeding wishes. Please note the minimum age for this experience is 8 years. This experience takes place within the Red Panda habitat and requires walking over uneven and steep ground.
Keeper For A Day
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a zoo keeper? Spend the day assisting our dedicated keeping staff as they show you what it takes to look after some amazing animals. From preparing the animals’ feed, cleaning habitats and visiting off-limits areas, during the ‘Keeper for a Day’ experience you get to experience life as a zoo keeper. Every day is different at Adelaide Zoo so you never can tell which incredible animals you’ll get up close to as part of the tour. From giraffes and maned wolves to penguins, reptiles and meerkats, there are many pawesome animals you’ll meet as part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Please note the minimum age for this experience is 16 years.
A Very Capy Encounter
Scratch a Capybara! Step into the calm and curious world of the Capybara— one of nature's most relaxed residents. In this exclusive behind-the-scenes encounter, you'll meet the charming Capybara trio as they nibble on snacks, enjoy enrichment, and wander over to say hello. This is your chance to connect with the world's largest rodent in a way most visitors never get to experience. Guided by one of our expert keepers, you'll use a special enrichment tool to give the Capybaras a gentle scratch, something they absolutely love! As they munch contentedly from their feeding pads and lean in for a groom, you'll discover what makes these social animals so unique, from their quirky personalities to their peaceful nature. With a small group size and a laid-back setting, this is the perfect way to slow down, share a moment with some truly loveable animals, and walk away with a new favourite species.
Koala Encounter
Come and hang with the adorable koala duo! Looking to meet some of Australia's most iconic animals, just minutes from the Adelaide CBD? Step behind the scenes and get up close with the beautiful Koala duo in this unforgettable experience. Join our passionate keepers inside the Koala habitat and learn all about Peaches and Pretzel, from their favourite foods to their sleepy routines. You'll have the chance to hand-feed them fresh gum leaves and, if they're feeling friendly, gently pat their soft fur. You'll also meet Whitney the Echidna, who loves to waddle through the habitat, often right past your feet! It's a special encounter with two truly unique Australian species.
Tortoise Encounter
Meet giant Aldabra Tortoise, Aonika! Step back in time and meet the prehistoric resident today. Aonika enjoys interacting with visitors and seeing keepers arrive with the red food bucket, moving towards it as fast as she can for a tasty treat. Please note this experience operates October – April Highlights of this experience: - Get up close to the gorgeous giant tortoise, Aonika! - Go behind the scenes in our Aldabra Tortoise habitat
Kangaroo and Wallaby Encounter
Meet the lovable kangaroos and wallabies! Get up close to the most colourful of all the kangaroo family – native Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies. These little marsupials will steal your heart with their beautiful colourings and super sweet faces. You’ll also meet another beautiful and bouncy species up close, the Western Grey Kangaroos that share their grassy habitat. Join our knowledgeable keepers behind the scenes and learn all about their unique personalities plus the trouble these species are facing in the wild, including Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies role in a vital cross-fostering program for other wallaby species. What’s more? All this will be happening while you watch them eat out of your hands. Please note the minimum age for this experience is 6 years.
Junior Keeper
Become a mini zoo keeper! Are you a kid who loves animals? Always wondered if you have what it takes to be a zoo keeper? Spend the morning learning all about animal care and assisting the knowledgeable Variety Children’s Zoo keepers. Feed, interact with and get up close to some incredible animals like goats, guinea pigs, rabbits and Little Penguins. Please note the minimum age for this experience is 8 years.
Panda and Friends
Wake up with Adelaide Zoo's most iconic animals. Step into the zoo before the crowds and discover a morning like no other. Panda & Friends is an intimate, morning journey through Adelaide Zoo's most serene sanctuary, the Bamboo Forest, where awe-inspiring encounters await. Designed to connect you deeply with nature and the species we strive to protect, this experience offers a rare chance to see some of our most iconic animals in their quietest moments. Start your adventure by watching the playful Red Panda, Ravi, enjoy his breakfast high in the treetops—a peaceful moment that feels worlds away from the everyday. Then, enjoy a private viewing of Australia's only Giant Pandas, Yi Lan and Xing Qiu, as they bring in the new day to explore and play around their habitat. At a peaceful point during your experience, you'll enjoy morning tea at the Wisteria Café. Enjoy the chance to relax and take in the surroundings before or after your guided walk through the rest of the zoo. Along the way, you'll meet more remarkable species from around the globe and discover the vital conservation work you're helping to support just by being here.
Orangutan Encounter
Help our keepers with an Orangutan Training Session! Go behind the scenes at Adelaide Zoo and get up close to these awe-inspiring animals. Considered by many scientists to be the smartest of all the great apes, you’ll have a front-row seat for a live training session highlighting their personalities and impressive intelligence. Meet one of our dedicated primate keepers and gain insight into the fascinating intellectual and behavioural skills of primates and the role of enrichment in animal welfare.
Rise & Roam
An early morning jungle adventure. Rise & Roam is an exclusive early morning tour led by an expert Tour Host, offering the rare opportunity to experience Adelaide Zoo before it opens to the public. As the Zoo comes to life, discover some of its most iconic animals and hear the fascinating stories behind these extraordinary species. Watch Sumatran Tigers make their morning entrance onto habitat, observe Komodo Dragons beginning their day, and hear the unmistakable calls of siamangs and white-cheeked gibbons echo through the treetops from the viewing platform, before arriving at the experience's unforgettable highlight, the opportunity for an exclusive orangutan viewing. As the orangutans enjoy their morning enrichment, and you enjoy your coffee and cake, the keeper will share fascinating insights into their behaviour, unique personalities and the conservation work helping protect them in the wild.
Through the Looking Glass - a Giant Panda Experience
Ever wondered what Bamboo Forest looks like from the other side of the glass? Before Adelaide Zoo opens for the day, step beyond the visitor path and into the Giant Panda habitat itself. Walk in the pawprints of Xing Qiu or Yi Lan alongside an Adelaide Zoo Giant Panda keeper, learning more about the pair, their care and the conservation of this incredible species. Guided by the keeper, you'll help prepare the habitat with food, treats and enrichment tailored to the individual panda and their preferences. Play an active role in this important part of their daily care, encouraging natural behaviours and providing opportunities for choice and exploration. Then, return to the visitor side and settle in with a warm drink and tasty treat as Yi Lan or Xing Qiu enters the habitat and explores what you've prepared. Limited to just six guests, Through the Looking Glass offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of Giant Panda care, connecting you with the expertise of Adelaide Zoo's keepers and the conservation work helping secure a future for Giant Pandas.
