At Central Deborah Gold Mine you have the unique opportunity to explore an authentic gold mine that successfully operated during the gold rush boom, extracting 929 kilograms of gold.
Don a hard hat to descend 61 metres underground on a guided Mine Experience Tour. Explore the honeycomb of underground tunnels, discover what conditions as a miner were really like, witness traditional mining equipment in action and see gold in its natural state. This 75 minute tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for children aged three years and over.
Dominated by a huge 22 metre high poppet head, the surface of the mine is a highlight in itself. Step inside heritage-listed buildings which were essential to the mine’s operation, including the old Blacksmith's Shop, the First Aid Room, Carbide Lamp Room and the impressive Engine Room.

This was one of the most unique, interesting, and enjoyable tours I have ever done. We went over 60 metres underground to experience first hand what working life would have been like for Bendigo’s gold-miners in the mid 20th century. I highly recommend to anyone wanting an immersive and unforgettable experience. Our tour guide, Jezz, was outstanding. This tour is ‘the real deal’ so best avoided by anyone affected by claustrophobia.

Had a fantastic time on the gold mine tour. It was such an interesting experience and a great insight into Bendigo’s history.
A special shout-out to Baz, who was absolutely brilliant! He was incredibly knowledgeable, genuinely passionate about the mine, and made the tour engaging from start to finish. His crowd work was excellent, and he had a great sense of humour while still taking safety seriously and managing others guests behaviour.
I myself was quietly nervous about going underground, but Baz made everyone feel at ease. You could tell he really cared about making sure everyone was comfortable.
Highly recommend the tour if you’re visiting Bendigo (and if you get Baz as your guide, you’re in for a treat).

We had a great experience visiting the Central Deborah Gold Mine. Everything was very well organised and the tour was both enjoyable and highly educational.
A special thanks to our guide, Baz, who did an amazing job. He explained everything clearly, shared interesting stories, and made the whole experience engaging from start to finish.
It was fascinating to learn about the history of the mine and see how people used to work underground in such challenging conditions. The tour was very informative and gave us a real appreciation for the miners' hard work.
We are very satisfied with our visit and truly appreciate the effort put into making this experience so memorable.
Highly recommended for anyone who has time—definitely worth visiting!

Absolutely stunning experience here. Highly recommended for first time Bendigo travellers. Had a fantastic experience at Central Deborah Gold Mine! Our tour instructor was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to carefully explain the history and demonstrate how gold was gathered back in the day. It was especially exciting to see real gold deep underground. Big shoutout to our guide for being so friendly and engaging which have made the whole experience even better!

The underground guided tour was very informative and an eye opener. To walk in the footsteps of the early miners, to feel their pain as they worked under such harsh and dangerous conditions, ultimately losing their hearing, destroying their lungs and dying young 😢 One cannot help but involve one's senses during this unique experience, made more alive and closer to heart as our guide was the granddaughter of one of the miners, who sadly passed away at the age of 35, trying to make a living for his family. I couldn't help thinking about those who made the big money without risking their lives...
