About

Currency Creek is a small Fleurieu Peninsula township just 10 minutes from Goolwa and the Murray Mouth, where vineyards, wetlands and local history come together. Once proposed as the site of South Australia's capital, Currency Creek now offers a quieter way to explore the region.

Wine is a key part of the area, with Home of Plenty Winery, One Paddock Cellar Door and other local wineries and cellar doors set among the surrounding vineyards. For a break outdoors, Lions Park provides a serviced picnic spot beside a spring-fed creek, while a short walk up the valley leads to one of South Australia's tallest railway viaducts.

Nature is close at hand at Black Swamp, a heritage-listed wetland with small waterfalls, native wildlife and opportunities for birdwatching. Keep an eye out for the area's scarred trees, which reflect the traditional practice of Aboriginal Australians sourcing timber for canoes.

With its cellar doors, wetlands, waterways and easy proximity to Goolwa and the Murray Mouth, Currency Creek makes a worthwhile addition to a Fleurieu itinerary, particularly for travellers exploring the southern end of the region.
