The exhibition tells the story of Canberra as the capital city of Australia.
Canberra is unique in design and innovative in the history of town planning by being the result of a worldwide competition. The winners of that competition, Walter and Marion Griffin, presented a design where the built and the natural landscapes have equal importance. They designed a city that fits in between landmarks and remains in scale with humans.
Come and learn more about what was here before the city, how the site and the design were chosen, what it might have looked like and what may happen in the future.

Stopped by the National Capital Exhibition and really enjoyed it. It’s small but super interesting, with easy-to-follow displays about how Canberra was designed. Everything’s well presented and not overwhelming, and the staff were friendly too. Plus, it’s right by Lake Burley Griffin, so perfect for a quick walk after. Definitely worth a quick visit 👍

Its definitely a must visit if you are a tourist. The entry is free.The Exhibition centre walks you through the history of Canberra. It offers an immersive experience as well. They have a small theatre which runs shows about Canberra and how it was formed. It also consists of a timeline about the formation of Canberra. The centre also has a shop from where you can purchase a memento.

Very interesting place displaying lots of historical details about Australia starting from it's discovery till today. Restaurant serves great coffee and delicious breakfast options with an amazing view that cheers up your mood.

Visited the National Capital Exhibition and really enjoyed the experience. The exhibition gives a clear and engaging overview of how Canberra was designed and developed — from its original concept as Australia’s capital to the modern city it is today. The displays are well presented, with interactive models, maps, and videos that make learning about the city’s history and architecture genuinely interesting. The staff were friendly and informative, happy to answer questions and share stories about Canberra’s past. The location by Lake Burley Griffin is beautiful, and you can enjoy a nice walk along the water after visiting. It’s a small but meaningful exhibition that helps you understand the vision behind Canberra’s unique layout and design. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, architecture, or Australian culture.

Awesome place to visit! Interactive displays & very informative with an amazing view! We found parking ok but we came at a really quiet time so I can imagine it would be hard most of the time to find parking. Theres a beautiful path that runs along the lake and a playground ground out the front. The gift shop has lots of pamphlets showing you what else there is to do in Canberra and surrounding areas. There were toilets on site that were really clean, theres lots of room so it would be great for those in a wheelchair (i had a pram and it was great having so much space to move)
